| Q: |
What is the Reseller Option Kit? |
| A: |
The Reseller Option Kit is a software distribution option
that enables Dell distributors and resellers to order Microsoft server
products tuned to Dell servers but not yet installed. You install
the software to fill specific customer requirements. The Dell ROK
enables you to be more responsive to your customers and the market
and still deliver high performance-tuned hardware-software configurations. |
| Q: |
What Microsoft server software is available as a Dell
Reseller Option Kit? |
| A: |
Many of the most common SKUs you use are available such
as Windows Server 2008, Small Business Server 2008 and Server Small
Business Server 2011. |
| Q: |
Can I use ROKs interchangeably on servers from different
OEMs and distributors? |
| A: |
You can only run OEM servers with matching ROK media.
That’s because each ROK has a BIOS-locked media that has been tuned
and customized by each OEM for its hardware. This eases installation
and improves software performance. |
| Q: |
Do I have to order the Dell ROKs at the same time
I order Dell servers? |
| A: |
No. You can purchase ROK media separately from servers,
even on a separate purchase order, selling hardware and software to
meet customer demand. |
| Q: |
What types of server operating system licenses do
I need? |
| A: |
Most server operating systems require client access
licenses (CALs). User CALs allow a named user to access the server
from multiple devices, such as desktops, notebooks, handheld computers,
mobile phones, and so forth. Device CALs allow multiple users to access
the server from a single device, such as a terminal computer. Each
Dell ROK includes five CALs. |
| Q: |
Does my customer also need Microsoft Software Assurance?
|
| A: |
To help ensure eligibility for the most current product
releases, along with upgrade-like pricing, you will need to purchase
Microsoft Software Assurance for your themselves. With Software Assurance,
your customer receives access to new versions of licensed software
(released during the term of their license agreement) to deploy at
their own pace. |
